The fields of law and paralegal studies are complex subjects to navigate and comprehend. A big help to researching these areas is to consider:
- The type of law that is under investigation
- The resources that provide access to that law
- The jurisdiction that has authority over that law
- is it federal, state, local, or international?
Once you have answered these questions, finding the correct resource is much easier.
Keep in mind, there are basically three types of law:
- Statutory Law (the laws of the land)
- Administrative Law (rules and regulations by which government agencies operate)
- Case Law (court opinions, also known as Common Law)
