Mr. Vince Kelly started teaching in 1971 in the Art Department. He taught ceramics, glass-blowing, photography, stained glass, and computer graphics for artists. Ed Branson, the founding Art faculty, expressed gratitude in his oral history interview for how Vince and Richard Marcusen were able to expand the fledgling art program into new areas.
Mr. Kelly taught the first computer graphic design on campus. He personally became interested in using a computer for graphic design and bought himself an Apple IIe computer. He started teaching computer graphics to a small number of students. Interest in computer graphics grew over the next several years. Dr. Glen Peterson acquired more computers for the Art Department and began the Graphic Design program.
Besides teaching, Vince was also an artist exhibiting his works in the state and around the country winning awards. He did numerous demonstrations and workshops on campus and brought in visiting artists. He was also the Art Division Chair for a number of years.
Mr. Kelly retired in 1999 and was given Emeritus Faculty status.
