Yavapai College Career

Nomination letter excerpt:

To whom it may concern,

I would like to nominate Selina Bliss for the Professor Emeritus award. Selina began working at Yavapai College in 1994. She began her career working as a nursing instructor with the college while also working as a staff nurse at Yavapai Regional Medical Center. Selina had one of the first Quality Matters on-line courses. She has taught all aspects of nursing for the college. In the early 2000s she would organize groups of students to the state capitol to demonstrate the plight of nurses and meet the members of the senate and representatives.

She also has been active in the Faculty Association through the many committees that association had. She has been on the professional growth committee, faculty affairs, curriculum committee and standards. Selina was even the President of the Faculty Association. She retired from Yavapai College in May 2021.

While working as a nursing instructor Selina also has been a member of the Arizona Nurses Association and has climbed through the ranks to be the President of Chapter 6. (Nurse Educators). She has been the secretary, treasurer, and vice president. She also was the ambassador for the National League of Nursing. She has written test questions for National Council of License Exam (NCLEX). She also received her certification in nursing education through the National League of Nurses. She is board certified registered nurse in medical and surgical nursing.

During the summers when off contract for the college, Selina volunteers for the Medical Unit for the management of wildfires for the Prescott National Forest Service. Sometimes, this position requires her to go to areas outside of the state for management of wildfires. She feels she has a duty to assist the persons impacted by wildfires.
