Yavapai College Career

The following is from Victoria "Vikki" Bentz's Emeritus nomination letter:

Evidence of Vikki’s almost three decades of superior teaching, contributions to the Yavapai College community, and contributions to the communities of Yavapai County follows:

  • 1995-1997: Adjunct Faculty. Microcomputer Applications and Accounting. Traveled with the Mobile Computer Lab teaching computer classes to the various communities in the county. I also assisted the Business Training Center with corporate computer training at Allied Signal as well as seminar-type classes for YC employees.
  • 01/97 - 07/97: Temporary full-time Faculty, BuCS Division. Discipline: Computer Applications and Accounting. Held the position of “lead instructor” for the Prescott Valley computer lab during the summer of 1997. Duties included development and implementation of the OE/OE classes, as well as scheduling and supervision of instructors/lab monitors. 
  • 2000-2002: Director, YC College of Innovation. Duties include strategic planning, policy standardization, program development/improvement including internal marketing and promotion, proposal and payment tracking, project outcomes tracking and assessment, coordination of committee meetings, and reporting to administrative bodies/District Governing Board.
  • 07/1997-8/4/2023: Full-time Faculty, Business and Computer Science. Accounting, computer applications and business classes.

SIGNIFICANT CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

2022: BSB, Accounting concentration. Prof. Bentz was the only full-time accounting faculty member at the time the BSB was developed.

2019: Wrote proposals and received curriculum approval for 5 accounting program updates, including new IRS Enrolled Agent Cert and updated 4 courses and created one new (Enrolled Agent Review).

2018: Integrated Internships with external VITA and AARP tax preparation programs in the community.

2018: Wrote the application that placed all YC accounting classes/programs on the list of eligible workforce development classes funded by the State of Hawaii Workforce Development Council in Oahu County.

2017: Received Quality Matters certification for ACC 131, the first course certification received at YC.

2004: Facilitated a new degree partnership with NAU (B.S. - Computer Systems).

2001: Creation and implementation of Online Teaching Certificate for YC faculty. Included creation of three new online classes.

2000: Created the first fully online program for YC: Microsoft Office User Specialist certificate, which included implementation and management of MOUS (MS Office User Specialist) testing center.

2000: Development and delivery of EDU 298B: Introduction to Online Teaching using LearningSpace.

1998: Developed and taught YC’s first online class (in LotusNotes LearningSpace platform).

ACADEMIC HONORS AND AWARDS

  • NISOD Award for Teaching Excellence, 2020.
  • Ph.D., ABD: NorthCentral University, research topic: Community College Entrepreneurship. 2010.
  • Awarded Graduate Certificate in Advanced Accounting, NorthCentral University, 2009.
  • Barbara McClurg Award for Innovation and Creativity, 2000.
  • Completed 2nd master’s degree: Online Teaching and Learning, Cal State, Hayward, 1999.

COLLEGE SERVICE

  • Lead faculty/Program Director – Accounting Department (list of responsibilities/duties appended)
  • Faculty Association Senator/Officer since 2002 (President in 2006-07 and 2014-15) also served as Secretary/Treasurer many years. Authored YC Statement of Understanding on Shared Governance, facilitated Senate committee reorganization at various times throughout the decades.
  • Chair, Faculty Association Budget & Compensation Committee. Facilitated original faculty workload calculator, workload committees, course capacity/class caps/tiers policy and procedure, lab loading.
  • Chair, Peer Faculty Review committee for new faculty members. Developed policy/procedures, assigned mentors/mentee, oversaw process.
  • Chair, Professional Growth Committee. Developed policy and rubric to evaluate sabbatical apps.
  • Chair, Shared Governance Committee (prior to the Blue Ribbon Commission)
  • Chair, Accounting Program Review (2005-2006)
  • Other, non-Senate committee membership: Dual Credit, LMS RFP, Strategic Planning, Blue Ribbon shared governance committee.
  • Participated in Yavapai College’s first Leadership Development program • Participated in and provided feedback for Master Teacher Retreat
